The cancer Biomedical Informatics Grid (caBIG®) program is sponsored by the National Cancer Institute (NCI) to develop and deploy the next generation of applications, tools, data and analytical resources, informatics standards, and informatics infrastructure in order to significantly enhance cancer research. caBIG® is a multi-institutional effort with participation from cancer centers, research institutions, standards organizations, and biomedical informatics research and development groups. The program was established in response to the increasing and challenging informatics needs of the cancer research community. These needs include support for integration of information from diverse data sources and data types, for coordinated and secure management of information across multiple institutions (e.g., for multi-institutional clinical trials), and for analysis of large volumes of data. CCI researchers are involved in the following caBIG® activities:
